Various top leaders of Vietnam Communist Party have for long regarded President Ho Chi Minh as “a brilliant thinker and an eminent theorist”. “His thought and morality will always lighten and embrace our souls. He led a shining example that urges us to move forward”. The 7th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (1991) did write respectfully in its Political Credo and Charter: “The Party applies Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh’s thought as the ideological foundation and guidelines for action”.

Ho Chi Minh’s thought is a “system of comprehensive and profound views on fundamental issues of Vietnam revolution, resulting from the creative application and development of Marxism-Leninism into Vietnam’s specific conditions, the inheritance and development of traditional values of the nation, and the absorption of the human kind’s cultural quintessence”.

Ho Chi Minh’s thought reflects the laws of Vietnam revolution which were testified by the victory of Vietnam revolution itself. Ho Chi Minh’s thought possesses both national and epochal values, helping to tackle critical issues of the current century namely: national independence, democracy, humanity, toleration, peace, friendship, cooperation and development. As the world all shares these common aspirations, Ho Chi Minh’s thought has become more and more valued.

For his tireless and outstanding contribution to Vietnam revolution and the nation, he has gained a defined position that no one has yet to do in Vietnam’s history.

Ho Chi Minh found the way to save and liberalize the country through proletarian revolution. It combined the true patriotism with genuine internationalism, national independence with socialism, the national strengths with the world’s; which ended the crisis of policy and marked a new and glorious era in the national history – Ho Chi Minh era.

Ho Chi Minh took the credit for having promoted and creatively applied Marxism-Leninism in Vietnam in the first place. He utilized the Marxism-Leninism worldviews and methodology to awaken national traditions within the people and nurture the “elements” that guaranteed Vietnam revolution victory.

Ho Chi Minh developed the foundation of political ideology and organization for the establishment of a political party that belonged to Vietnamese working class and united the first communist organizations in Vietnam in order to found the Communist Party of Vietnam. No matter where he stayed either within or outside the country, he always managed to lead the Party to overcome every single difficulty and bring about great victory for Vietnam revolution.

Ho Chi Minh was devoted to building a solid national unity as national core strength to fight against every enemy. Ho Chi Minh’s great thought was concisely expressed in the strategic slogan: “Solidarity builds on more solidarity. Success leads to greater success”. It became a source of aspiration and encouragement that gathered patriotic Vietnamese people during the fight for national liberation and the construction of socialism and national defense.

Ho Chi Minh is the beloved father of Vietnam’s armed forces, which “come from the people and fight for the people”. Ho Chi Minh nourished them with the determination to fight and win so as to make glorious feats that mankind has never ceased to admire.

Ho Chi Minh fathered the Democratic Republic of Vietnam – the very first  People’s Democracy in South East Asia. He laid the foundation for a ruled-by-law and “of the people, by people, for people” state.

Ho Chi Minh is a genius strategist, who in company with Vietnam Communist Party successfully led the two resistance wars against French colonialism and the US imperialism. It marked the collapse of the colonial system and hindered the further development of neocolonialism, profoundly influencing the world’s 20th century history.

Ho Chi Minh opened up the path to socialism in an underdeveloped agricultural country – the one that had not undergone capitalism and was devastated by wars. He gradually helped “the poor to have enough to eat, people who have enough to eat to become rich and rich people become wealthier” so as to build a wealthy people and a strong country in which the people are the owners, with the officials at their service.

Ho Chi Minh is a great educator. He helped to establish a new morality – culture and new society; and together with the Party trained a new generation of revolutionaries, from the first grade leaders to cadres and soldiers at grass-roots level who all wholeheartedly followed him as an example of living and fighting, stayed loyal to the country, devoted to the people, lived an industrious, accountable and selfless, humble and simple life…and they themselves have played a part in vitalizing Ho Chi Minh’s thought in reality today.

Ho Chi Minh’s great credits and achievements have made him a great hero of national liberation, a brilliant thinker and a creative theorist of Vietnam revolution, who is admired and praised by the progressive mankind and the peoples, which are still fighting for liberation.

Nowadays, the study of Ho Chi Minh’s thought is at the very first stage. It needs to be studied deeply and soundly to further clarify the rationale and practice, and the theoretical and pragmatic values, so as to be worthy of such an eminent thinker and of its position as the ideological foundation for the Party and Vietnam revolution. The works of Prof. Song Thanh is considered an initial attempt in the direction mentioned above.

It can be seen that Ho Chi Minh’s thought is an invaluable treasure of the Party and the people and provides profound generalization of development laws and achievements of Vietnam revolution over last 85 years. It is significant and imperative to study Ho Chi Minh’s thought and his contribution to national thought system in order to lead Vietnam revolution to overcome challenges and gain achievements in the new era.
