General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong expressed his great pleasure in participating in the opening ceremony of the first training course for members of the 12th Party Central Committee. On behalf of the Poliburo, the Secretariat, and with personal feelings, he warmly welcomed participants of the course. Besides, he highly appreciated close coordination and active preparation of the Party Central Committee’s Organizing Commission, the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, the Central Theoretical Council, the Office of Party Central Committee, and relevant departments to organize the course as planned.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong affirmed that learning was both a duty and a right. Our ancestors once said “A sound mind in a sound body”, “A young ox learns to plow from the older one”, and “Travel broadens the mind”. In the process of revolutionary leadership, great men and leaders, such as Lenin and Uncle Ho, always paid much attention to the study of the people, especially cadres and Party members.

According to the General Secretary, there were many things to study and many ways to study; study at schools, in classes; study in life, in work; study in the country and outside the country; learn from teachers and classmates; learn from each other; self-study and self-research.

The General Secretary said that participants of the course had studied a lot and had much experience in life. There were lots of those who used to be lecturers, progressed, and became members of the Party Central Committee and key leaders in our political system. Why did they need to attend this course? What and how were they going to study? The General Secretary emphasized that the course would foster and update knowledge particularly in some topics and fields but not generally. Therefore, it focused on supplementing and updating new knowledge to excite and give orientation for its participants to do self-research and apply into practical activities, which served directly for their work.

The course is short and its participants are very busy with their work but they try to arrange their time to attend the course. Its lecturers are all Politburo members. The participants will do research on nine topics, including issues on the socioeconomic development; building a government of integrity and action; building a socialist law-based State; renovating and rearranging the apparatus and building up the contingent; ideological and theoretical work; promoting the strength of national unity, implementing socialist democracy; defense, security, and external affairs strategies.

Therefore, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong asked the participants to be aware of their responsibility, to study seriously with a modest and knowledge-demand spirit; transforming the learning process into self-learning and self-research process, being active and self-aware with suggestion and orientation from lecturers, and reading more materials and books. “This is also a good opportunity for you to share and exchange experience, helping each other to progress. It is “Better learn your friends than your teachers”, the General Secretary emphasized.

Politburo member Pham Minh Chinh makes a speech at the opening ceremony.

At the opening ceremony, Politburo member Pham Minh Chinh, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Organization Commission, said that the curriculum of the course was built based on the reorganization of Party guidelines and State laws and policies in the fields of Party building, socioeconomic development, ensuring defense, security and external affairs. In addition, the course would provide participants with new knowledge, and theoretical and practical issues, which served practically for their leadership and direction of members of the Party Central Committee.
